What will you be doing?

You’ll be working closely with the Head of Legal and be leading and managing the provision of commercially focused legal advice to all areas of Group operations, with a focus on proactive risk mitigation and prevention. You’ll also be line managing the Commercial Paralegal which will involve coaching and developing their knowledge of legal practices.

You’ll be based at St Mary’s Stadium, in the city centre, just a 20-minute walk from the train station or if you’re a driver there’s free parking! There is also the option for flexible home-working a few days a week to ensure you get the balance you need to get the job done. Your desk is located within the Shared Services department, just down the corridor from our lovely bistro where you can help yourself to free breakfast, tea & coffee, plus go enjoy our 3pm snack of the day surprise.

Is this you?

You have previous experience working in an in-house legal environment and have exceptional communication skills to effectively communicate to people at all levels. You find joy when you bring innovative solutions to the table. You like to build valuable relationships with people and advise on a diverse range of legal issues.

Essential Experience:

  • Good practical understanding of legal and compliance issues.
  • Good experience in negotiating general commercial agreements and a good understanding of IPR, and be comfortable applying commercial judgment.
  • Ability to create innovative and commercial solutions.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence key internal and external stakeholders in a positive way.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in the UK, ideally 0-2 years PQE.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to advise on a diverse range of legal issues.
  • Eager and willing to develop and tackle new areas of law with confidence.
  • Proven ability to give strategic and commercially focussed legal advice. This will include confidence in providing risk-based opinions or options on key issues and a willingness to develop innovative solutions that are relevant to operations.
  • Excellent communications skills and a willingness to develop strong relationships across all business areas.
  • Able and confident to deliver training and awareness sessions as required.
  • Confident in presenting findings to senior colleagues in a diplomatic but effective way.
  • Good team player with ability to coach and develop more junior members of staff.
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to deliver work effectively under pressure and take a flexible approach to drafting and negotiation.
  • Ability to effectively plan and contribute to the overall strategy of the Legal team.
