Armstrong Teasdale is seeking a Sports, IP and Media Associate to join its London office, with scope to also be involved in contentious matters.

About the role

You will become a vital member of a team which is ranked in the Legal 500 for UK Sports law, working closely with Partners, and national and international clients.

This is a varied and rewarding role in which you will manage client relationships and run your own files, undertaking research, drafting and negotiation of sports-related and/or commercial documents including:

  • sponsorship and endorsement agreements;
  • supplier and services agreements (including master services agreements);
  • terms and conditions (including ticket terms and conditions and conditions of entry);
  • brand protection, trademark registration and agreements, IP licensing and image rights;
  • logistics, IT contracts, franchising, distribution and agency, outsourcing, sale and hire of goods;
  • software licences, SaaS contracts, and software development and maintenance agreements;
  • advertising, e-commerce, licences and assignments; and
  • website policy documents (including privacy policies). 

You will also be involved with business development and may have a degree of supporting junior colleagues.

This role will suit a solicitor looking for the next challenge in their career.  We offer a good work-life balance, although flexibility will be required during busier times.

About you

You will have a genuine interest in sports and will be a team player with a flexible approach to work.   You should be results-driven, pro-active and able to exercise a high degree of self-management along with the ability to prioritise. 

Accuracy and attention to detail are essential, as are strong communication and negotiating skills, and a professional attitude to work. 

You will be able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation, as well as the ability to work in and across teams (with the understanding that we also act for non-sports related clients).  You should have the ability to manage assigned tasks in an assertive, efficient and timely manner.

You will have:

  • A current England & Wales practising certificate, or entitlement to obtain one
  • Three to five years’ recent UK PQE
  • A degree (preferable in law) having achieved a minimum 2:1
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Experience gained drafting high-quality commercial contracts in a private practice or in-house environment and in advising on legal issues arising therefrom

It would be advantageous if you also had:

  • Experience of advising on competition, consumer law
  • Experience advising on legal, operational and commercial issues arising from sporting and entertainment events, COVID-19 and/or Brexit
  • Private practice and in-house experience
  • Achieved a Distinction in your Legal Practice Course
  • Additional language skills
