The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) to turn rhetoric into reform at second Sport Integrity Forum

IOC’s first Marketing and Broadcast Rights Director, Michael Payne, to give keynote speech.

The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) will host its second SIGA Sport Integrity Forum in Lisbon tomorrow, with over 100 sports industry leaders ready to tackle the serious governance and integrity issues blighting sport, and help turn rhetoric into reform.

The IOC’s first Marketing and Broadcast Rights Director, Michael Payne, who helped lead the IOC’s response and reforms following the Salt Lake City scandal in 1998, will deliver a keynote address on the collapse in confidence in global sports leadership. He will also address how sports leaders can find solutions to the current problems.

Speaking ahead of the Forum, SIGA Coordinator Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros said:

At a time when fans’ confidence in the leadership and governance of world sport is at its lowest level, the timing of the SIGA Sport Integrity Forum could not be more appropriate. Every day the world wakes up to new revelations of corruption, poor governance and unethical dealings in sport – and sports fans have had enough. This critically important Forum is designed to take the rhetoric of integrity in sport and turn it into real reform. I am determined that, with the help of the industry experts gathering here in Lisbon, SIGA will be able to harness the demand for change and turn it into tangible progress in the immediate future. The second edition of the Forum will once again include lively, interactive and highly-informed panel discussions featuring a variety of industry experts, including José Manuel Constantino, President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee; Pedro Pinto, Managing Director of Communications at UEFA; and Alexander Schischlik, Chief of Youth and Sport Section at UNESCO.

The Forum will feature a dedicated Sports Business, Brand Values and Reputation panel, including Andy Meldrum, Vice President of Consumer Connections at AB InBev; Misha Sher, Vice President of Sport and Entertainment at MediaCom Worldwide; Bill Glad, Head of the President’s Cabinet at European Athletics; and Michael Robichaud, Senior Vice President of Global Sponsorships at Mastercard. The SIGA General Assembly will take place the day after the Forum at Palácio Foz, Lisbon, Portugal on 27 July.
