CAS dismisses the appeal of Alexei Lovchev

Press Release

15 July 2016 - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by the Russian weightlifter Alexei Lovchev against a decision issued by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) on 13 May 2016 in which a four-year period of ineligibility was imposed on the athlete, and his results at the 2015 IWF World Championships were cancelled, further to an anti-doping rule infraction (positive anti-doping test for ipamorelin, a growth hormone releasing peptide). Accordingly, the IWF decision is confirmed in full.

Alexei Lovchev filed an appeal at the CAS on 1 June 2016 seeking to obtain an annulment of the IWF decision. The Panel of CAS arbitrators appointed to decide the matter held a hearing at the CAS Court Office on 6 July 2016 and has notified its decision to the parties today. The full award with the grounds will follow at a later date.
