Fifth term for Mihaylov in Bulgaria

Borislav Mihaylov has been re-elected as president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU).

The former Bulgarian national team goalkeeper and captain was confirmed in office for four years at the BFU’s extraordinary congress on Tuesday. He was first elected in 2005, and won further terms in 2009, 2014 and 2018.

“I would like to thank everyone for their trust,” said Mihaylov after his election. “There will be change – I will work with all of my heart for the next four years.”

Investing in development

He revealed that the BFU’s objectives include preparing and offering a national programme for the development of youth football, as well as the construction of a new national stadium. The association is also set to increase its investment in developing coaches.

Mihaylov was one of Bulgaria’s greatest-ever players, winning 102 national team caps. He won three domestic league titles and three Bulgarian Cups with PFC Levski Sofia, and played for clubs in Portugal, France, England and Switzerland.

His proudest moment came at the FIFA World Cup in 1994, when he was captain of the Bulgarian team that reached the semi-finals.
