How Science and Investigations combined can protect the rights of the clean athlete

September 12, 2014 – The fields of science and investigations are preparing to convene in Istanbul, Turkey next month to discuss how their activities combined can help improve tools and develop new strategies to combat the use of drugs in sport.

With the revised World Anti-Doping Code to be introduced in under four months’ time, science and investigations collaborations are more common than ever before. The WADA Science & Investigations Symposium – which runs from Tuesday 28 – Wednesday 29 October 2014 – will involve experts in investigations and anti-doping science exploring a number of topics, including:

  • Recent developments in investigations on drugs circulating illegally
  • Identification of new drugs with doping potential
  • Strengthening communication and data sharing in the field
  • Development of new tools and strategies in combatting the fight against doping in sports
As part of the invitation-only Symposium – which will include experts from the science and investigations sectors and representatives from organizations such as INTERPOL and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - WADA is pleased to invite media to a Press Conference following the conclusion of the Closing Session on 29 October.

The Press Conference will provide media with a chance to learn the outcomes of the Symposium. There will also be an opportunity to interview WADA President, Sir Craig Reedie, and WADA Director of Science, Dr. Olivier Rabin, immediately following the Press Conference.

For media interested in attending the Press Conference, or to request an interview, please contact WADA Senior Manager, Media Relations and Communications, Ben Nichols (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by Tuesday 14 October 2014.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Best regards,

World Anti-Doping Agency
