Powerlifting Athlete Suspended for the Presence and Use of Tamoxifen
The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Phillipe Marcil, a powerlifting athlete, received a two-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during in-competition doping control on August 21, 2021, revealed the presence of tamoxifen, a prohibited hormone and metabolic modulator.
Because Mr. Marcil failed to dispute the anti-doping rule violation within the timelines specified in the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP), the violation and the sanction were confirmed by way of a deemed waiver. A sanction of two years was imposed, concluding on October 3, 2023. During the sanction period, the athlete, who resides in Saguenay, Quebec, is ineligible to participate in any capacity with any sport signatory to the CADP, including training with teammates.
