The ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered its sixth arbitration procedure related to the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
The Lebanese alpine skier Jeffrey Zina submitted an application challenging the decision taken on 1 February 2018 by the Lebanese Olympic Committee to not select him for the male alpine ski slot allocated to Lebanon for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. The Respondent is the Lebanese Olympic Committee. The International Ski Federation (FIS) and the athlete Allen Behlok have been named as Interested Parties.
This CAS procedure has been submitted to a Panel of arbitrators composed of:
Mr John A. Faylor (Germany/USA), President
Ms Thi My Dung Nguyen (Vietnam), arbitrator
Prof. Dr. Martin Schimke (Germany), arbitrator
The Panel held a hearing with the parties in person and via videoconference in the morning of 14 February 2018 at the offices of the CAS ad hoc Division in Pyeongchang.
The CAS Panel rejected the application filed by Jeffrey Zina and confirmed that the only quota place allocated for Lebanon in men’s alpine skiing events was correctly attributed by the Lebanese NOC to Allen Behlok.
The full award with the grounds will be published shortly.
