Sport and intellectual property – the year in review 2019/20

Intellectual property rights are at the heart of all sports business deals and as a result legal disputes and developments in the field are frequent and significant. The last year has brought us more interesting cases, which we’ll examine under the following categories:

  • Trade mark, copyright and passing off cases
  • Data & confidential information
  • Advertising Regulation

Nicholas is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution team, specialising in Intellectual Property disputes.

He specialises in the protection, exploitation and enforcement across the range of intellectual property rights, including trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and confidential information.

He has particular expertise in protecting and enforcing brands and I act for clients in many different sectors including the retail, manufacturing, engineering, media, financial and technology sectors.

Chris works as a Managing Practice Development Lawyer at Lewis Silkin, helping to ensure that the lawyers keep right up to date with the latest legal and industry developments.
Victoria Owrid

Victoria Owrid

Trainee Solicitor, Lewis Silkin

Victoria joined Lewis Silkin as a trainee in 2019.

She is currently gaining experience in the firm's Brands and IP team having spent my previous seat in Employment.

Prior to joining Lewis Silkin, I completed my masters in History at the University of Toronto. My research was focused on non-governmental organisations.

She also holds a BA in History and American & Canadian Studies from the University of Birmingham and studied the GDL and the LPC at BPP University, London.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time on the Isle of Wight with my family and exploring the green spaces around London.
Leonie Sheridan

Leonie Sheridan

Trainee Solicitor, Lewis Silkin
Leonie joined Lewis Silkin as a trainee in 2019.

She is currently gaining experience in the Dispute Resolution team having spent my previous seat in Employment.

Prior to joining Lewis Silkin she worked in digital marketing for a new writing theatre.

She graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an undergraduate degree in English Literature, and later completed the GDL and LLM Legal Practice at BPP University, Manchester.
