Simon is a founding partner of onside law and heads up the firm's corporate team. Simon specialises in all aspects of the sport, fashion and entertainment industries, as well as acting in other entrepreneurial sectors. Prior to onside law, Simon practiced for over 7 years as a corporate commercial lawyer at two of the UK's leading law firms - Slaughter and May and Clifford Chance.
Recently Simon has advised a Saudi Prince on his multi-million pound acquisition of a 50% equity stake in Sheffield United Football Club, the owners of mass participation sports business Human Race on its sale to Amaury Sport Organisation (owners of Tour de France), Wentworth Club Limited on the introduction of a membership debenture scheme and esports company, Gfinity PLC, on private fundraisings and the structuring of the Elite Series franchise tournament. Simon has also recently advised governing bodies such as the England and Wales Cricket Board and the European Tour on corporate governance matters and, separately, corporate matters relating to tender processes for the hosting of events. Other matters have included advising sporting brands (Srixon and Babolat) on their expansion and protection.
Simon specialises in acquisitions, disposals, investment agreements (including EIS and SEIS), joint ventures, shareholder agreements and general commercial agreements. Simon has appeared on Radio 5 Live and in the UK broadsheets as an expert on foreign investment in football, spoken to international federations in Lausanne on governance matters and written articles on the financial regulation of sports clubs. Simon is recommended by independent legal directories Legal 500 and Chambers as a leading sports law practitioner being described as having a “reassuring presence”, is “admired” by clients and “although we face some complicated issues, we know that with Simon on board he will make it work”.
