The ITA reports that athlete Vitória Maciel Marcos has accepted a 2-year ban for her anti-doping rule violation
The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of World Taekwondo (WT), reports that Brazilian taekwondo athlete Vitória Maciel Marcos has accepted a two-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for the prohibited substance furosemide.
The ITA confirms that the athlete Vitória Maciel Marcos has agreed¹ to the consequences for her anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The athlete tested positive for furosemide after providing a sample on 31 May 2025 during an in-competition doping control conducted by the ITA at the 2025 Rio Open, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Furosemide is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents. It is prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition) and is classified as a specified substance. Furosemide can be used by athletes to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
The athlete did not challenge her ADRV and agreed with the consequences proposed by the ITA. Accordingly, the case was resolved via an acceptance of consequences.
The athlete’s period of ineligibility is from 18 February 2026 until 17 February 2028. Additionally, all the athlete’s individual competitive results at the 2025 Rio Open in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and from the date of sample collection (31 May 2025) until the start of the period of ineligibility (18 February 2026) are disqualified.
The decision may be challenged before the appeals division of the Court of Arbitration of Sport by the parties with a right of appeal in accordance with Article 13.2.3 of the WT anti-doping rules.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
