The International Testing Agency (ITA) managed the anti-doping activities for the 2021 edition of the Tour de France for the first time after the delegation of the entire cycling clean sport program by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in the beginning of the year. USADA announced today that Matt McWhirter, of Scottsdale, Ariz., an athlete in the sport of cycling, has received a four-year suspension for an anti-doping rule violation.
McWhirter was subject to testing due to his membership in USA Cycling, which maintains the RaceClean Program that works to deter doping in the sport of cycling. The goal of the RaceClean Program is to create a level playing field from the grassroot to elite level of cycling.

A small group of Afghan women cyclists has managed to reach Italy on board a C-130 of the Italian Air Force that landed at Fiumicino (Rome) on 27th August. Six athletes are currently observing the required quarantine, alongside a male athlete and several family members. Joy, but also concern about those who are haven’t yet been able to leave Afghanistan.

U.S. Cycling Athlete Katherine Compton Accepts Sanction for Anti-Doping Rule Violation
USADA announced today that Katherine Compton, of Colorado Springs, Colo., an athlete in the sport of cycling, has accepted a four-year suspension for an anti-doping rule violation.
Compton, 42, tested positive for an anabolic agent as the result of an out-of-competition drug test on September 16, 2020. Her urine sample was analyzed using a specialized test, known as Carbon Isotope Ratio testing, that differentiates between anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) naturally produced by the body and prohibited anabolic agents of external origin. Anabolic agents have powerful performance-enhancing capabilities and can give an athlete an unfair advantage over fellow competitors.
