On 4 September ESIC announced an investigation into the historical abuse of a bug in CS:GO’s spectator mode (Spectator Bug). ESIC contracted the services of Michal Slowinski (the discoverer of wrongful use of this exploit) to work with ESIC in the fulfilment of the inquiry. This statement sets out the findings of the first part of our investigation. ESIC has also decided to include additional information annexed to this statement in order to ensure the greatest possible transparency and understanding of our process and outcomes.

The year 2020 has been a roller-coaster of ups and downs for everyone globally but it did not stop the AESF from continuing its efforts in growing the Esports scene. In spite of limitations imposed on international traveling, restrictions on ground events as well as significant slow-down of the economy in general, Esports have been one of the few industries which responded the quickest and in the most effective manner.

Approximately eighteen months ago and on several occasions since, ESIC has received suspicious bet alerts through our global integrity monitoring framework which led us to establish an investigation into potential match-fixing activity in the MDL tournament series administered by one of our members, ESEA (a subsidiary operation of ESL). As we consider this matter to be of industry concern due to social media speculation, we have chosen to provide an update as we begin to finalise our investigation.

(NASDAQ: AESE), today announced that the company has become a member of the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC), the preeminent international organization in esports focused on maintaining and enforcing competitive gaming regulations and conduct.

The Portuguese Esports Federation has become a member of the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). This agreement will guarantee the compliance of the Portuguese Esports Federation with ESIC’s Code of Ethics, as well as of all future competitions to be organized or licensed by the Portuguese Esports Federation with ESIC’s Anti-Corruption Code, Player Code of Conduct
and Anti-Doping Code.

The Global Esports Federation (GEF) today announced a new strategic collaboration with Nielsen, the global leader in media measurement, valuation, data and insights. Through this alliance, Nielsen Sports will provide the GEF market research analysis, insights and data provisioning to amplify the value of the GEF and its efforts in convening the world’s esports ecosystem.
The Global Esports Federation welcomes International Federations – World Karate Federation, Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (World Pentathlon), and International Canoe Federation – as members. The GEF has now confirmed eight International Federations – more than 70 Member Federations – sharing the collective mission to bridge the connection between sport, esports and virtual sport – powered by innovative technology.
The Global Esports Federation announces a strategic partnership with the Arab Esports Federation (ARESF). Following the recent landmark announcement with the Olympic Council of Asia, this latest partnership will see the GEF expand its in-depth work to support the continuing dynamic growth of the esports ecosystem in the Arab region and Africa.
The Global Esports Federation confirmed the establishment of the International Federations Advisory Council (IFAC) and the Publishers and Developers Advisory Council (PDAC) to provide expert advice to the GEF Board in their respective fields following the successful launch of the #worldconnected Initiative in partnership with Tencent Esports, at the recent 2020 Global Esports Summit in Hainan, China.
On 2 September ESIC issued sanction outcomes against three coaches who utilised a bug in the CS:GO spectator mode in order to achieve an advantage (“Spectator Bug”). ESIC has since reviewed a large quantity of evidence and believes that it is in the best interest of the industry to open an inquiry into the potential exploitation of this bug as far back as 2016. In doing so, ESIC will contract the services of Michal Slowinski and Steve Dudenhoeffer (the discoverers of wrongful use of this exploit) to work with ESIC in the fulfilment of the inquiry.
We conclude that it is beyond doubt that dead, HUNDEN and MechanoGun are guilty of exploiting the infamous “coach bug”. We acknowledge the admissions of HUNDEN and MechanoGun and their acceptance of the ESL and Dreamhack sanctions. We have offered the opportunity to all teams to appeal our decisions to the ESIC Independent Disciplinary Panel as per the appeals process outlined within our Code.
