WADA publishes IOC Anti-Doping Rules for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

A WADA statement said “The IOC, as the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) Signatory responsible for establishing the Rules applicable to the Games, has established and adopted these Rules to be in line with the 2021 Code and International Standards; most notably, the 2022 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, which was published on 30 September 2021 and comes into force ahead of the Games on 1 January 2022. The Rules will cover the period from the opening of the Olympic Village on 27 January until the day of the closing ceremony on 20 February 2022.”

The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved today the Qualification System Principles (QSP) for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, outlining the rules for all the qualification systems that will now be established by the International Sports Federations (IFs) for these Games.

30 SEPTEMBER 2021, MONACO: Further to the incident involving Belarusian athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and the decision taken by the IOC to cancel and remove the accreditations of the two coaches, Messrs A. THE INTERNATIONAL TESTING AGENCY (ITA), LEADING AN INDEPENDENT ANTI-DOPING PROGRAM FOR THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES BEIJING 2022, HAS SUPPORTED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW INTERACTIVE EDUCATION COURSE FOR ATHLETES AND COACHES AIMING TO ATTEND THE UPCOMING WINTER GAMES. THIS CLEAN SPORT COURSE WAS DEVELOPED BY THE WORLD ANTI-DOPING AGENCY (WADA) IN COLLABORATION WITH THE ITA AND THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE (IOC) AND IT LAUNCHES TODAY ON WADA’S EDUCATION PLATFORM ADEL. THE ITA IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR A PRE-GAMES EDUCATION PROJECT DESIGNED TO ENABLE CODE SIGNATORIES TO EDUCATE THEIR DELEGATIONS BEFORE THEY HEAD TO BEIJING.

IOC Transgender Guidelines further delayed to 2022

The International Olympic Committee transgender guidelines have been delayed until 2022 due to “very conflicting opinions.”

The guidelines are now expected to be published after the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing which would be three years later than originally planned. The IOC’s science and medical director Dr Richard Budgett said the guidance would “prioritise inclusion” and “avoid harm.”

Tokyo 2020: ITA succeeded in fully implementing anti-doping program for Olympic Games despite challenging COVID-19 circumstances

A total of 6’200 collected samples from over 5’000 doping controls, more than one-third of the athlete population in Tokyo tested at least once – these are the final figures of ita’s anti-doping program for Tokyo 2020. Six anti-doping rule violations were asserted to this moment as the outcome of ita’s testing program. The vast majority of doping controls were targeted and followed a quality approach based on an extensive risk assessment, performance and available intelligence. The last phase of ita’s comprehensive anti-doping program for Tokyo 2020 is the storage and later re-analysis of samples collected during and in the lead-up to the games.

The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today decided to suspend the Olympic Committee of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (PRK NOC) until the end of 2022, as a result of the NOC’s unilateral decision not to participate in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

UK Sport introduces pregnancy guidance for Olympic and Paralympic athletes and sports

UK Sport has for the first time introduced pregnancy guidance for Olympic and Paralympic athletes and sport governing bodies.

The guidance includes advice for both pregnancy and continues once the athlete has given birth. UK Sport said “starting a family and being an elite athlete should not be mutually exclusive.” Five-time Olympic archer Naomi Folkard who gave birth in early 2021 before competing at this years Tokyo Olympics said “Female athletes should no longer have to make a choice between their athletic career and having children. I hope in a short time it will encourage sports science to not only begin to cover women and men equally, but also have pregnancy specific research projects for female athletes.”

An application for a change of nationality was accepted today by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) as it held a hybrid meeting from Lausanne, which concluded a series of commission meetings in the course of the week.
