Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) received updates regarding the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the two latest developments: the findings of the International Testing Agency (ITA)’s investigative report, published on 24 June 2021, and the outcome of the IWF Constitutional Congress held on 30 June 2021.

IOC announces nursing mothers can bring their children to Tokyo Olympics
The IOC has now confirmed that mothers who are breastfeeding their children can bring their child with them to the Tokyo Olympics.
Debate began when Canadian basketball player Kim Gaucher said that due to Covid restrictions she would either have to spend 28 days away from her daughter or be forced to miss the Olympics. Gaucher said “Japanese fans are going to be in attendance, the arenas are going to be half-full, but I will not have access to my daughter? We’ve tried appeals. Everyone says they’re on board, but nobody can do anything. Let’s see if we can make a difference. It’s 2021. Let’s make working moms normal.”
CGF to conduct review of Commonwealth Youth Games
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) have confirmed that they will conduct a full review of the Commonwealth Youth Games and make recommendations to the unique proposition, purpose and value of the event.
Following the first Youth Games in Edinburgh in 2000, there have been six editions of the competition with the most recent event taking place in The Bahamas in 2017.

IOC publishes Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week published the Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations (SSRs), which aim to determine how any impact of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case would be managed in competition formats and structures at these Games. The regulations have been jointly developed between the IOC and the International Federations (IFs) whose sports are on the Olympic programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

IOC statement on the case of Canadian Boxer Mandy Bujold
Only the operative part of the CAS award in this specific case has been notified so far. As the situation stands, it may imply the IOC having to make decisions that would prove detrimental to other athletes from the Americas. Under these circumstances, the IOC has decided, as a matter of exception, to accept the entry of Ms Bujold for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Joint Statement on Spectator Capacities at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Today, on 21 June, the five parties, namely the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Government of Japan (GoJ), met to discuss spectator limits for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Suspension of TAWA Athletes lifted in accordance with the decision of the Independent Monitoring Group
In its award of 8 April 2021, the CAS had decided that TAWA athletes would not be allowed to participate in IWF events until 18 June 2021, or an earlier date subject to TAWA satisfying a number of conditions. The matter was considered by the Independent Monitoring Group, which yesterday found that these conditions were satisfied and therefore lifted the suspension on TAWA athletes with immediate effect. However, no TAWA athletes will participate in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 as a result of the CAS award.
