Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges the decision of the NRL Anti-Doping Tribunal to sanction athlete Bronson Xerri for the presence of a prohibited substance and its metabolites, the use of a prohibited substance, and possession of a prohibited substance.

Mr Xerri returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from an out-of-competition doping control test on 25 November 2019.

His sample was analysed at the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, part of the National Measurement Institute, which detected the presence of prohibited substances Exogenous Testosterone, and its metabolites; Androsterone, Etiocholanolone, and 5b-androsterone-3a,17b-diol; and Testosterone (Use and Possession).

The NRL Anti-Doping Tribunal imposed a four year ban on Mr Xerri commencing on 25 November 2019.

Mr Xerri is ineligible to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy until 25 November 2023. He is also not permitted to compete in a non-signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE

Testosterone is classed as S1 anabolic agent on the Prohibited List and is prohibited in and out-of-competition.

Anabolic agents pose many threats to an athlete’s health and some side effects may include an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol levels which can lead to heart disease. Liver disease and infertility can also result from the use of these agents.
