World Athletics approves application of Russian U20 athlete to compete internationally as neutral athlete

The World Athletics Doping Review Board has agreed that the application of one Russian athlete has met the exceptional eligibility criteria to compete in international U20 competition as a neutral athlete in 2021 under Eligibility Rule 3.2 while the Russian national federation (RusAF) remains suspended.

Russian Federation suspension extended by World Athletics Congress

Following presentations from RusAF Acting President Irina Privalova and Chair of the Russia Taskforce, Rune Anderson, the World Athletics Congress has today approved the World Athletics Council’s recommendation that the Russian Federation continues to be suspended while the Council oversees completion of the Russian reinstatement plan.

Andersen presented the Taskforce’s latest report before the Congress vote. All other documents and decisions will be published at the conclusion of the Congress tomorrow.

Athletics coach Rana Reider set to be investigated by the US Center for SafeSport after multiple complaints of sexual misconduct were made against him.

Reider is a well renowned athletics trainer as he has trained multiple World and Olympic Champions including Tokyo 2020 Olympic 200m gold medallist Andre de Grasse and two-time Olympic champion Christian Taylor.

World Triathlon has imposed a period of ineligibility of three years on Russian triathlete Alexander Bryukhankov for the presence of EPO in his urine sample on an in-competition doping control on 19 June, 2021, at the Europe Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships in Kitzbuhel, Austria, in which he finished in the 5th place in the Final B.

Athletics Integrity Unit issues charges against Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare in relation to three disciplinary matters

07 OCTOBER 2021, MONACO: The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has issued charges against Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare in relation to three separate disciplinary matters.

The athlete has been charged with the presence and use of a prohibited substance following the detection of Human Growth Hormone in a sample collected out-of-competition on 19th July in Slovakia and reported to the AIU on 30th July. This matter was publicly announced on 31st July when Ms Okagbare was provisionally suspended. She had been scheduled to participate in the semi-finals of the Toko 2020 women’s 100m that day.

The Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport imposes an 18-month period of ineligibility on Andrejs Rastorgujevs (Latvia) following 3 whereabout failures in 12 months

The Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS ADD) has issued the following decision in relation to the Latvian biathlete Andrejs Rastorgujevs:

The Request for Arbitration filed by the International Biathlon Union on 3 May 2021 is partially upheld.
Andrejs Rastorgujevs is found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to Article 2.4 of the IBU ADR (three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period).
Andrejs Rastorgujevs is sanctioned with a period of ineligibility of eighteen (18) months.
The period of ineligibility shall commence on 11 March 2021, which is the start date of

the provisional suspension imposed on Andrejs Rastorgujevs.
All competitive results obtained by Andrejs Rastorgujevs from 1 July 2020 until the date

on which the CAS ADD decision enters into force are disqualified, with all resulting consequences including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.

CAS Bulletin 2021/1

In this Olympic year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has opened two temporary offices in Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (the Games) which have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and have been held this year from 21 July to 8 August 2021.

WADA Leadership holds talks with Russia’s Sports Minister regarding RUSADA’s requirements for reinstatement

The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) President, Witold Bańka, Director General, Olivier Niggli, and other members of WADA Leadership met with the Sports Minister of the Russian Federation, Oleg Matytsin, and other members of his delegation in Istanbul, Turkey. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the requirements that must be fulfilled by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and the Russian authorities for RUSADA to be reinstated as compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code), when the two-year period of consequences prescribed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in December 2020 expires.

Vienna marathon winner disqualified after shoe soles break rules

Ethiopian Derara Hurisa won the Vienna marathon over the weekend but was later disqualified when it was found that his shoe sole violated the rules by being 1cm too thick.

Hurisa won the race with a time of 2:09:22 but less than 45 minutes later he was disqualified when it was discovered that his shoe soles were 5cm thick which is 1cm too thick for the rules. Road running shoes cannot have a sole thicker than 4cm and Hurisa was wearing different shoes to the ones he described on his race form.
