Australian tennis player receives 4-year sanction
Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges that decision of the Independent Tribunal, convened by Sports Resolutions, has imposed a four-year period of Ineligibility on former ATP athlete and coach Marinko Matosevic
Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges that decision of the Independent Tribunal, convened by Sports Resolutions, has imposed a four-year period of Ineligibility on former ATP athlete and coach Marinko Matosevic for Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) under Article 2.2, Article 2.6 and Article 2.9 of the Tennis Anti-Doping Policy (TADP).
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has Results Management Authority in this matter.
The tribunal determined that Mr Matosevic committed five anti-doping rule violations between 2018 and 2020, namely:
Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Method (Manipulation of blood or blood components) in February 2018, contrary to Article 2.2 of the 2018 Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP);Complicity in Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Method by another Player in February 2018 contrary to Article 2.9 of the 2018 TADP;Complicity in Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Substance by another Player in January 2020 contrary to Article 2.9 of the 2020 TADP;Use of a Prohibited Substance (namely Clenbuterol) in 2020, contrary to Article 2.2 of the 2020 TADP; andPossession of a Prohibited Substance (namely Clenbuterol) in 2020 contrary to Article 2.6 of the 2020TADP.
- Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Method (Manipulation of blood or blood components) in February 2018, contrary to Article 2.2 of the 2018 Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP);
- Complicity in Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Method by another Player in February 2018 contrary to Article 2.9 of the 2018 TADP;
- Complicity in Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Substance by another Player in January 2020 contrary to Article 2.9 of the 2020 TADP;
- Use of a Prohibited Substance (namely Clenbuterol) in 2020, contrary to Article 2.2 of the 2020 TADP; and
- Possession of a Prohibited Substance (namely Clenbuterol) in 2020 contrary to Article 2.6 of the 2020TADP.
Clenbuterol is listed under Class S1.1 (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) of the World Anti-Doping Code – International Standard – Prohibited List 2020 (2020 Prohibited List). Clenbuterol is classed as a non-Specified Substance and prohibited at all times.
Manipulation of Blood and Blood Components is listed under Class M.1 (Prohibited Method of Manipulation of Blood and Blood Components) of the World Anti-Doping Code – International Standard – Prohibited List 2018 (2018 Prohibited List).
The independent tribunal determined a maximum four-year period of Ineligibility be imposed on Mr Matosevic for the ADRVs.
Mr Matosevic is ineligible to participate or coach in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy between 16 March 2026 and 11:59pm on 15 March 2030.
He is also not permitted to compete or coach in any non-signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.
Mr Matosevic is also subject to the disqualification of results from all events in which he competed, around the time of his use of blood doping in February 2018, with all resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, titles, ranking points and prize money forfeited.
