Ben Seghir receives a 5-match suspension
The SFL's competition disciplinary judge has suspended Salim Ben Seghir for five matches. The Neuchâtel Xamax FCS midfielder is being punished retroactively for spitting on Nicolas Hasler (Vaduz) on February 22.
As a reminder, on February 23, the Swiss Football League's competition disciplinary judge opened proceedings against Salim Ben Seghir
following the referee's report concerning a potential incident during stoppage time between the Xamax player and FC Vaduz captain Nicolas Hasler on February 22.
Today, the judge has suspended the French player for five matches for spitting on his opponent, based on video footage. Such a retroactive decision is possible because this incident was not witnessed by the referees present at the stadium. This decision may be appealed within two days to the president of the Disciplinary Committee, who acts as the sole judge. However, the appeal will not have a suspensive effect, as the judge specified in his decision that "any appeal would have a suspensive effect, except for the first official match following the decision."
Salim Ben Seghir will therefore be suspended from this Friday, March 6, for the trip to Nyon.
