The ITA reports that weightlifter Dinh Thi Pham has accepted a 2-year ban for her anti-doping rule violation
The International Testing Agency (ITA), leading an independent anti-doping program for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), reports that Vietnamese weightlifter Dinh Thi Pham has accepted a two-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for the prohibited substance furosemide.
The ITA, on behalf of the IWF, confirms that the athlete Dinh Thi Pham has agreed¹ to the consequences for her anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The athlete tested positive for the prohibited substance furosemide after providing a sample on 5 July 2025 during an out-of-competition doping control conducted by the ITA.
Furosemide is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents. It is prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition) and is classified as a specified substance. Furosemide can be used by athletes to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
When notified of the case, the athlete accepted a voluntary provisional suspension pursuant to article 7.4.4 of the IWF anti-doping rules.
The athlete did not challenge her ADRV and agreed with the consequences proposed by the ITA. Accordingly, the case was resolved via an acceptance of consequences.
The athlete’s period of ineligibility is from 23 August 2025 until 22 August 2027. Additionally, all the athlete’s individual competitive results as from 5 July 2025 onwards are disqualified including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.
The decision may be challenged before the appeal division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by the parties with a right of appeal in accordance with Article 13.2.3 of the IWF anti-doping rules.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
