The ITA reports that weightlifter Jhohan David Sanguino Matamoros has accepted a 4 year ban for his ADRV
The International Testing Agency (ITA), leading an independent anti-doping program for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), reports that Venezuelan weightlifter Jhohan David Sanguino Matamoros has accepted a four year period of ineligibility for his anti doping rule violation.
The ITA confirms that the athlete Jhohan David Sanguino Matamoros has agreed¹ to the consequences imposed for his anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The athlete tested positive for stanozolol metabolites in two in-competition samples collected on 28 November 2024 during the Bolivarian Games in Lima, Peru, under the testing and results management authority of the Organización Deportiva Bolivariana (ODEBO), and on 13 December 2024 during the IWF World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, by the ITA under the testing and results management authority of the IWF.
Stanozolol is listed under the WADA Prohibited List as S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS). It is classified as a non-specified substance and prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition). Stanozolol is a synthetic anabolic steroid that promotes lean muscle growth and enhances strength.
On 7 March 2025, when notified of the results of the 13 December 2024 sample, the athlete was provisionally suspended with immediate effect.²
On 26 March 2026, ODEBO issued a decision concerning the 28 November 2024 sample, confirming that the athlete had committed an ADRV and referring the matter to the ITA for determination of the applicable consequences under the IWF ADR.
Pursuant to Article 10.9.3.1 of the IWF ADR, the two adverse analytical findings were considered together as one single first violation.
The athlete did not challenge the ADRV and agreed with the consequences that apply under the IWF anti-doping rules as proposed by the ITA. Accordingly, the case was resolved via an acceptance of consequences.
Due to his early admission of the ADRV, the athlete was entitled to a one-year reduction of the applicable period of ineligibility as set forth in article 10.8.1 of the IWF anti-doping rules.³
