The UCI suspends Colombian Germán Darío for doping
The International Cycling Union confirmed on January 27 the provisional suspension of Colombian cyclist Germán Darío Gómez Becerra, after he tested positive in a doping test.
According to the UCI report, boldenone was found in Gomez's system in a sample taken out of competition on December 28, 2025.
"The International Cycling Union (UCI) announces that Colombian cyclist Germán Darío Gómez Becerra has been notified of an adverse analytical finding for boldenone and one of its metabolites* in a sample collected out of competition on December 28, 2025," the UCI detailed.
According to international regulations, the Colombian cyclist will be provisionally suspended, but will have the right to request the analysis of the B sample. Should a new adverse analytical result be registered, Germán Darío Gómez could receive a sanction of up to four years.
What is boldenone?
Boldenone is a steroid that enhances muscle mass and strength growth. It is used in animal feed production.
However, several Colombian athletes have been affected by this substance, which is very present in beef, given that it is given to cattle to improve the final product.
Several athletes in the country have been affected by the substance after consuming beef. Some notable cases include weightlifters Yenny Sinisterra, Juan Solís, and Ana Iris Segura, cyclist Fabián Puerta, and tennis player Robert Farah, among others.
