Weightlifting athlete sanctioned for 3 years
Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges that the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has imposed a three-year period of Ineligibility on athlete Isabel Harrison Lorenzi
Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges that the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has imposed a three-year period of Ineligibility on athlete Isabel Harrison Lorenzi for committing Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) under Article 2.1 and/or Article 2.2 of the IWF Anti-Doping Rules (ADR).
Ms Harrison Lorenzi returned an Adverse Analytical Finding from an Out-of-Competition doping control test on 15 April 2023.
Ms Harrison Lorenzi’s sample was analysed at the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, part of the National Measurement Institute, and the presence of Metenolone and its metabolites were detected. The Results Management was transferred to the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the IWF.
Metenolone and its metabolites are listed under Class S1.1 (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) of the World Anti-Doping Code – International Standard – Prohibited List 2023 (2023 Prohibited List). Metenolone is classed as a non-Specified Substance and prohibited at all times.
Ms Harrison Lorenzi was notified by the ITA of the alleged ADRVs under Article 2.1 and/or Article 2.2 of the IWF ADR on 27 February 2024. She was also issued a Mandatory Provisional Suspension on the same date.
Under Article 10.2.1 of the IWF ADR, the period of Ineligibility imposed for the violation of Article 2.1 and/or 2.2 where the ADRV involves a non-Specified Substance is four years.
However, under Article 10.8.1 of the IWF ADR, where the athlete admits to the violation and accepts the sanction, they are eligible to receive a one-year reduction to their period of Ineligibility.
In accordance with this provision, the IWF has imposed a three-year period of Ineligibility on Ms Harrison Lorenzi. The period of ineligibility commenced on 5 June 2023, in accordance with Article 10.13.1 of the IWF ADV for delays not attributable to the Athlete.
Ms Harrison Lorenzi is ineligible to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy between 5 June 2023 and 11:59pm on 4 June 2026.
She is also not permitted to compete in any non-signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.
