Sports IP Seminar

LawInSport & Keltie would be delighted if you would join us for a Sports IP Seminar on the 17th November 2016 at Keltie's office at London Bridge (details below).

The Sports IP Seminar will provide guests with an exclusive insight into some of the challenges faced by leading IP lawyers working in sport and provide an open forum to share some practical advice on how to deal with these challenges.

3.40 - 4.00pm - Trade marks in football

Sean Corbett, Brand Protection Manager at Formula One Management Limited, will review the status of trade marks in football following his excellent article for LawInSport. 

4.00 - 4.20pm - A comparison between approaches of in-house and private practice IP lawyers

Zane Shihab, Partner at Kerman & Co and In-house Legal Counsel for Wimbledon, will share some of the issues and differing approaches that arise with respect to IP from an in-house and private practice perspective.

4.20 - 4.40pm - Life as a commercial lawyer at IMG, Perform & Dugout 

Adam Lovatt, In-House Counsel at Dugout, will share his experiences working at IMG, Perform Group and his new role with Dugout, a new social media platform for leading football clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich. 

4.40 - 5.15pm - Coffee break & networking

5.15 - 6.15pm - The future challenges of managing IP in sport panel discussion & Q&A

Speaker Profiles

Manuela Macchi

Manuela is a UK and European Trade Mark and Design Attorney and a Partner in the London office of Keltie LLP. She specialises in brand protection and manages a number of worldwide trade mark and design portfolios, being responsible for their overall strategy. In 2013 Manuela founded Keltie's Sports Intellectual Property Practice, a team focussing on the protection of sports trade marks. The practice was mentioned in the 2015 Legal 500 and has gone from strength to strength, with Manuela working for some high profile sports clients, particularly in golf and rugby. Manuela edits and writes pieces for the Intellectual Property blog IPCopy and has also authored articles on trade marks in sports and image rights for a number of publications, including LawlnSport.

Sean Corbett 

Sean is an IP practitioner and trade mark attorney for Formula One Management Ltd and is responsible for devising and maintaining the brand protection strategy for the pinnacle of motorsport, F1 racing, and in protecting the IP rights surrounding one of the world’s most popular sporting events and most imitated brands. 

Zane Shihab 

Zane is an Associate Partner in the Sports Department and provides commercial advice to global brands, international sporting bodies and events and high-profile individuals. He specialises in drafting commercial contracts including sponsorship, joint venture, merchandising, broadcasting, new media, agency, distribution and image rights agreements, venue agreements and IP and software licences.

He has negotiated numerous lucrative sponsorship and supplier agreements on behalf of sporting events and governing bodies including the PGA European Tour, Ryder Cup, London Marathon and RideLondon. 

Adam Lovatt

Adam is In-House Counsel at Dugout, a new social media platform for leading football clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich. Adam was a lawyer at Perform Group and IMG specialising in sports law. Adam has a wide range of commercial and ligation experience from his four years as a qualified solicitor. Adam hold an IP Law Masters programme with the University of London. He is passionate about most sports particularly football, golf and tennis.

Sean Cottrell

Sean is the CEO and founder of LawInSport, an international educational media business that provides expert commentary and analysis on the latest issues and legal developments in the world of sport. Founded in 2011, LawInSport has become the "go to" sports law website for sports lawyers and sports executives across the world. LawInSport plays a key role in the development of domestic and international sports law policy and regulation.
