One of the stewards responsible for the decision, 1996 world champion Damon Hill, was bombarded by "stinging emails" from angry Schumacher fans following the ruling, which came after the German overtook Ferrari's Fernando Alonso at the final corner of the final lap, shortly after a safety car had pulled into the pits.
