Levy Board will fund two all-weather race meetings a day during freeze

The Levy Board, which passes a share of betting revenue back to the sport, said yesterday that funds will be made available to schedule at least two all-weather meetings a day "for the foreseeable future" after racing suffered its first unplanned blank day for nearly a year yesterday. The tracks at Lingfield and Kempton were still raceable yesterday morning despite heavy overnight snow, but both meetings were abandoned as roads around the track were impassable.

Newcastle head Jermaine Beckford queue despite Leeds' price hike

Jermaine Beckford is poised to move to Newcastle United this month but for up to double the fee that had been expected before he scored the winning goal for Leeds United in Sunday's FA Cup win at Manchester United.

Newcastle had lined up Beckford long before his dramatic impact at Old Trafford but sources suggest Leeds may demand around £3m for the 6ft 2in former RAC repair man whose coruscating change of pace arguably masks significant flaws. Just six months ago Beckford, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was rated in the £1.5m bracket.

Tony Fernandes poised to launch takeover bid for West Ham

Fernandes, the founder and driving force behind the highly successful AirAsia airline, is a lifelong West Ham supporter and has been in sporadic talks about taking a stake in the Premier League club for several months.

Telegraph Sport disclosed in November that Fernandes had met West Ham chairman Andrew Bernhardt in Kuala Lumpur but the pair could not agree a deal. Talks have continued with, it is believed, Fernandes finally deciding that he wants to invest in the club.

Kubica to stay with Renault - report

Robert Kubica is set to remain with the Renault Formula One team, his manager said on Monday.

The highly-rated Pole only joined the team in October but Renault's decision to sell a significant stake to Luxembourg investment group Genii Capital raised doubts about his future.
