Hull City's problems worsen as Premier League investigates Michael Turner transfer

Their investigation has been prompted by two of the centre-back's previous clubs, Brentford and Charlton, alleging they had lost almost £1 million in sell-on fees.

While the fee was undisclosed at the time of the transfer in August, Paul Duffen, Hull's outgoing chairman, told the clubs that the deal was valued at only £4 million.

The government has pledged to “urgently investigate” betting on youth football as Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has added his voice to those warning that the practice leaves minors vulnerable to corruption.

In the past two weeks Telegraph Sport has exposed the extent to which bookmakers offer markets on youth football and, as a result, two bookmakers have suspended betting on academy matches.

Rafael Benítez slams referee following Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Fulham

Liverpool suffered their fifth league defeat of the season in 11 games as both Philipp Degen and Jamie Carragher saw red in a frantic final 20 minutes that saw Erik Nevland and Clint Dempsey inflict further pain on Benítez with the goals that see them lag nine points behind table-toppers Chelsea.

Liverpool have now lost six of their past seven games in all competitions and Benítez’s future is severely under threat.

Hull City's transfers over the last two years are to become the subject of an internal investigation at the KC Stadium.

Adam Pearson returns as chairman of the troubled club on Monday and his first objective will be to analyse all the deals that were authorised by Paul Duffen, whose term as chairman and chief executive ended on Wednesday amid serious concerns over Hull’s financial crisis.

Senna seals 2010 Campos deal

Bruno Senna has sealed a deal to make his Formula 1 debut with the new Campos Meta team next season.

The 26-year-old nephew of legendary three-time world champion Ayrton had been close to securing a deal to drive with Honda for 2009 before the Japanese manufacturer pulled out of F1 last winter and the replacement Brawn team eventually opted to stick with the experienced Rubens Barrichello.
