Owen Coyle finalising switch to Bolton from Burnley

Owen Coyle appeared close to completing his proposed move from Burnley to Bolton Wanderers today when he was due to discuss terms for his departure with Barry Kilby, the chairman at Turf Moor.

Burnley's manager met Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, in Scotland on Sunday to discuss the mooted switch after receiving reluctant permission from Kilby to open talks. Burnley were effectively powerless to prevent such discussions because a clause inserted in Coyle's contract last summer freed him to talk to any rival club prepared to pay more than £3m in compensation for his services.

In a sport that prides itself on its toughness and commitment under physical duress, Mike Webster was about as tough and committed as they come. "Iron Mike" was the anchor of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a gritty job in one of the grittiest teams in American football.

He played for the Steelers from 1974 to 1989, winning the Super Bowl – the annual championship of the National Football League (NFL) — four times, three as captain. He was inducted into the pro football hall of fame, and came to be seen as an icon of the sport.

Flavio Briatore set to learn whether his lifetime ban from F1 will be rescinded

The former Renault team principal is suing the FIA, motorsport's governing body, after he was found guilty by its world council last September of ordering Nelson Piquet Jnr to crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to help Fernando Alonso win the race.

Pat Symonds, Renault's former director of engineering who received a five-year ban for his role in the scandal, has also appealed to the Tribunal de Grande Instance.

Pacquiao-Mayweather dispute going to mediation

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are going to mediation to try and salvage their March 13 fight.

Representatives of the two fighters will meet Tuesday with a California mediator in an effort to reach agreement on blood testing issues that have threatened to derail the fight. The mediation comes after two weeks of talks on the issue.

Glazer family want £600m bond to cut Manchester United's massive debt

Manchester United have asked banks to help them raise £600million in a bid to cut the massive debts they owe financial institutions.

United have been labouring under mounting debts since the Glazer family took over in 2005, burdened by the cost of the takeover.

The Americans have been desperate to refinance as interest payments soared to almost £69m last season on debts of around £700m.
