Accelerating F1 into 2026 and beyond - How the FIA’s F1 Financial Regulations are helping to spark thrilling competition

Since Liberty Media acquired F1's commercial rights in 2017[1], the sport has expanded its global appeal, notably through entertainment offerings like Drive to Survive.
However, the introduction and evolution of the FIA’s F1 Financial Regulations[2], first implemented in 2021, have been equally crucial to its success.
The FIA turned to Deloitte to support on the development and implementation of the Financial Regulations, to encourage responsible spending of F1 Teams to help protect long-term sustainability and stability while contributing to heightened on-track competition and sporting fairness to ensure a high-stakes, high-speed spectacle.
For Federico Lodi, FIA Director of Financial Regulations, embarking on the journey to implement new financial rules in 2021 was no mean feat: “The introduction of new regulations is rarely met with open arms; it requires a strong vision of how measures will evolve, improve and galvanise a sport. From day one, we were laser-focused on communicating the objective to improve the financial performance of teams to ensure that the sporting spectacle remains at heart of Formula One.”[3]
